The Pater Noster Archipelago is known for being difficult to navigate and has been preferably avoided by mariners.
In the 1915 edition of the Nordic family book, one can read: "Formerly infamous as a result of the sure doom that awaits the sailor who, during night or storm, drifts among these wild rocks."
The author, Ingemar Jonasson, took the initiative for this book with a view to investigating which plants made it to the islands. He has been interested in plants and nature in general for a large part of his life. With the help of about 10 experienced and very knowledgeable surveyors from the Bohusläns Flora Association, the task was solved with a number of boat trips to 27 of the larger islands of the Pater Nosterskärgåden's 97 islands. This involved him also looking for older literature about the archipelago, which led to pretty much every island being described with its own character. Geology and ancient use of the islands is also described with several interesting details. This means that boat owners with different interests can easily be inspired and plan the summer's boat trips and beach breaks with this book. The archipelago becomes easy to navigate and well-known instead of infamous.
