The urban farmer's guide to an edible garden and a sustainable life.
"A content-rich, inspiring and generous book about self-sustaining, which is suitable both for the beginner grower and for those who have grown some but want a push into a more self-sustaining lifestyle." Jenny Westlin Green, BTJ
The urban farmer's guide to an edible garden and a sustainable life. Do you dream of a balcony or garden that flaunts edible treats? About homemade teas and a home pharmacy? Or chickens frolicking in Santa's yard? Then this is the book for you! In Den lilla farmen i stan, you will learn about cultivation, sustainability and how to create a self-sufficient lifestyle, even if you live in the city. With a gentle hand, grower and environmental informant Linda Holtby guides you to a cultivation that suits you, whether you just want herbs in the kitchen window or turn the whole lawn into a jungle. You get to take part in growing tips, favorite recipes, and both kill shots and success stories.
Linda's own cultivation journey began when she was sick for exhaustion and the path to a more sustainable life came to go hand in hand with self-sustaining. In just a few years, she and her husband built up a small urban farm with berry bushes, fruit trees, herb garden and mushroom farms, yes, they even have a chicken coop, field and manure pile inside the fence of their small garden. In a normal year, they produce a quarter of a ton of food and then the cultivation area is no larger than 100 square meters! With this book, Linda hopes to make you see the possibilities where you live and provide both inspiration and tools to create your sustainable life in the city, both for yourself and the planet.
LINDA HOLTBY, born in 1983, is the high school teacher who resigned to grow vegetables. What started with a few chili seeds grew into a stormy passion for cultivation, and the garden lawn was exchanged for carrots, beans and pumpkins. Today, Linda works as an environmental informant and communicator and shares her cultivation projects on the Instagram account @lillafarmen. She lives on her small city farm in Västerås with her family and some chickens. The little farm in town is her first book.
