Gotland is Sweden's foremost orchid landscape.
Of Sweden's approximately 55 species and subspecies of orchids, no fewer than 40 species and subspecies can be found on Gotland in such widely different environments as heather, coastal meadows, deciduous forests and in many different types of marshes. In the book Orchids on Gotland, the various orchids are presented together with information about the ecology of the plants, the flowering times of the various species for Gotland and about several exciting interactions with organisms in nature. The threat to the protected orchids is also addressed. Because there is one species per spread and the book is printed in a handy format, Gotland's orchids are a perfect book to take out into nature.
The text is written by Henrik Karlsson and is supplemented with his atmospheric photographs and Emma Tinnert's detailed illustrations. Together, text, photography and illustration create a whole that presents Gotland's orchids in an informative and appealing way. In this way, the book suits the interested tourist in general as well as the Gotland-based botanist.
