At 455 grams, the Manfrotto MVH400AH is one of the market's lightest and smallest two-way video heads.
It can actually bear up to 4 kg in load weight, which is more than most binoculars on the market. However, with the lack of a counterweight spring and with the relatively slim construction, we recommend it primarily for binoculars under a kilogram weight. The head has a built-in spirit level in the base and there is also the knob for brake/locking of lateral panning. At an angle at the front is the knob for tilt control. The joystick is a bit shorter than the standard Manfrotto has on its larger heads and lacks the slight bend. On the other hand, it is mounted in such a way that you can easily choose an angle in height.
The video head comes with the same (9 cm long) 501PL plate that was also delivered with the older heads 501 and 701 from Manfrotto, which thus provides a certain balancing possibility of your equipment, something that is missing, for example, on the Manfrotto 700RC2. The plate is locked with a screw from the side and also has an extra securing button before it can be moved out of its position.
Please note that the base of the head has a smaller diameter than standard Manfrotto, which should be noted when planning which tripod to combine the head with! In cases where you want or can lock the head with one or more locking screws via the base of the center pillar, the position of this or these screws in relation to the center bolt should be measured.
